One of my many #cancerlessons is that, for some of us, there isn't an end date. Because I have #lynchsyndrome #msh2 I will be followed and monitored and imaged for the rest of my hopefully long life. But the cancer I had, the surgeries I went through caused a lot of internal damage. So on Friday, after a couple weeks of medium pain and one week of #holyshit pain, I had a ureteral stent put in because something was blocking the flow from my left kidney to my bladder.
Not the most elegant plant but always makes me smile. I divided 3 established plants and placed them all over the garden but it looks like only one - this one - ended up blooming. But what a bloom. Love her
Hellebore is one of my absolute favourite plants. Until this year, it was my earliest bloomer. And this variety is the only I've had success with so far. My other is perhaps planted to close to the lilac tree. I'll have to experiment with a move eventually. I think the general gardening rule these days is that a healthy garden is 70% native, but I'm not there. I have quite a few lovely non-natives including some bigger bushes like hydrangeas. And this hellebore is not native to Ontario either. But I'm observing pollinator activity and if it isn't bringing home the bees, it's evicted! #mercilessgardening #hellebore #pinkflower #springephemeral #springisspringing #nonnatives
This is now a gardening blog! RIP to my former posting pattern. This lovely little friend is the crocus - I planted about 50 bulbs, 3 varieties, last year. The squirrels got at least some, and I don't remember all the places I stuck them, so it's a wonderful adventure seeing them pop up (not so wonderful realizing I'd been walking over some).
The girlfriend got a drone so I get garden progress pics. So excited to see how it changes through the seasons. Thank you @kaikanuck!
Another early harbinger of spring. This heather is part of a haul given to me by a local master gardener - I wasn't sure it would bloom this year but its cheerful cheekiness has lifted my spirits even on the gloomiest of days.
