How often do you get to stand on solid ground about the clouds? I feel this represents the perfect balance between having your feet planted on earth and your head in the clouds. This photograph reminds me of all the times I felt I was too stolid, too logical, too locked into reality - and all the times I felt like I was floating away, let loose inside my own head with no clear boundaries containing me. It makes me think of the search for balance, for stilling the swinging pendulum. What beauty, grace, and love lies in the middle of everything.

We missed the turnoff for a scenic lookout, so we drove on to a place to turn around...

And pulled into an unmarked, very beat-up road.

Decided to drive down and see where it led. That curious attitude had never steered us wrong before.

We came to a parking lot and though there were a few cars, we didn't see anyone. We walked through a Koa forest and out to see the most turquoise water, lava stone, and white crashing waves that we could ever have envisioned.

We'd been to many beaches and many golden spots, but having this space to ourselves for a time was something I will keep in my heart always.

We even saw a sea turtle sunning herself on the sand!

Whenever you have the chance, go down the unmarked, beat-up road. Do the unplanned things. Make time for side treks and mistakes that never become regrets.
